The study conducted by the two researchers, which relied on satellite image analysis and the Urban Difference Index (NDBI) for the period from 1990 to 2025, revealed a significant urban expansion in the areas surrounding the archaeological site of Leptis Magna, especially from the western and eastern sides. This expansion is partly attributed to population growth and urban pressure, which directly threatens the safety of the archaeological site and reduces its cultural value. The study recommends the necessity of developing comprehensive plans for managing the areas surrounding the archaeological site, including restricting urban expansion, creating buffer zones, raising community awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage, in addition to predicting the future urbanization of the study area using modern technologies in preparing a three-dimensional model of spatial suitability zones.
