This research addresses the issue of environmental awareness as one of the pivotal issues in the modern era, in light of the increasing environmental problems resulting from natural disasters and irrational human activities, and the direct threat they pose to both humans and the environment. The research stems from affirming the interactive mutual relationship between humans and their environment, highlighting the shift from the idea of protecting humans from the dangers of nature to the necessity of protecting the environment from negative human practices. The research focuses on environmental education, particularly at the basic education stage, as the foundation for shaping students' environmental attitudes, values, and behaviors.
The research aims to clarify the concept of environmental awareness, its types and characteristics, and to demonstrate its importance in rationalizing human behavior, in addition to identifying the tasks of both the teacher and the school administration in developing this awareness. The research has shown that environmental awareness integrates cognitive, emotional, and skill dimensions, and that it is an essential condition for achieving environmental security. It also concluded that the teacher has a pivotal role in instilling positive environmental behavior, while the school administration undertakes the responsibility of creating an educational climate and activities that support environmental education. The research concludes with a set of recommendations that emphasize the need to support teachers and school administrations, activate awareness programs, and enhance partnership between the school and the local environment in order to build a generation aware of environmental issues and capable of protecting them.
