The study aims to identify the concept of social control and its types, to define the concept of crime and its main classifications, and to explore the theoretical frameworks that explain social control and crime. The study relied on a descriptive-analytical approach.
The study reached several findings, including: Social control consists of a set of measures taken by society through its institutions to regulate the behavior of its members. There is no single motivation for committing a crime; rather, there are subjective, psychological, social, economic, political, and moral motives behind criminal behavior. All theories revolve around the importance of rules, values, and norms in the process of social control, which are foundational principles found in all revealed religions in general and in Islam in particular. There is a need to apply and activate these theories across all community centers and institutions to achieve effective social control. Efforts must be unified among all official and unofficial institutions to harmonize social control methods and direct them toward regulating individuals’ behaviors in cooperation with law enforcement bodies.
